I played Guild Wars 2 for 6 months, I have a level 80 human guardian. Its not as fun as I thought it would be.
My reasons why the game left me disappointed. Its fun if you're starting out at a lower level. But becomes really repetitive.
Your level is constantly being scaled down your armor, weapons, skills in low level areas to be 'fair" to the other players when you worked hard for that level and good gear, so it defeats every purpose of having it. They also do this to encourage you to join a guild and work in groups.
The grind is totally over exaggerated and is rediculous. You stay in an area on the map forever doing " A subway train effect" level guide to grind on events so you level up. It takes a day to go up 2 levels once you get your character further developed.
You cannot map travel without paying a toll which gets more expensive as you continue level up. They encourage you to travel on foot and there are no mounts to make this go any faster. They used to make you pay armor repairs, thank god they made it a free service.
There are hardly any places on the map for lvl 80's to explore or use your level for fun.
Guilds still suck and serve no real purpose once you max out your level. Its okay for group but it depends on how many is in your guild and willing to help you.
This is my experienced biased opinion. I did not like this game.

II can understand why you didn't like it. I would hate repetitive quests and missions.
